Allison M. Prasch is Assistant Professor of Rhetoric, Politics, and Culture in the Department of Communication Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her research focuses on the intersections of rhetorical theory and history, U.S. presidential rhetoric, foreign policy, and space/place. Her first book, The World is Our Stage: The Global Rhetorical Presidency and the Cold War (University of Chicago Press, 2023), examines how U.S. presidents used their international travels to expand the reach of presidential power and extend the United States’ global influence.

Professor Marjorie Agosin will speak via Zoom as part of the UCSB Taubman Symposium

Professor Marjorie Agosin (Department of Spanish, Wellesley) will speak on the journeys of Latin American Jewish feminists.  She is a Chilean-American has written more than 14 books in Spanish and English and many scholarly and popular articles.  She has received extensive notability for her outspokenness for women’s rights in Chile.  The United Nations has honored her for her work on human rights and the Chilean government awarded her with the Gabriela Mistral Medal of Honor for Life Achievement.  Among the awards she has received are the Letras de Oro, the Latino Literary Prize and the Peabody Award, together with the United Nations Leadership Award in Human Rights.
